Sesaat setelah Idol, ia bergabung dengan Fontana dan MapleMusic, dan merilis album pertamanya, Tug of War, pada tanggal 30 September 2008. Tiga tahun kemudian, ia merilis singel baru berjudul "Call Me Maybe", yang dirilis oleh 604 Records, dan diikuti oleh rilis album mini pertamanya, Curiosity, pada tanggal 14 Februari 2012. "Call Me Maybe" menuai sukses besar dengan menempati Top 5 di Billboard Hot 100 dan peringkat 1 di Canadian Hot 100. Singel ini juga menempati peringkat 1 di Australia, Irlandia, dan Britania Raya.
