Sintesis

Besi(III) pirofosfat anhidrat dapat dibuat dengan memanaskan campuran besi(III) metafosfat dan besi(III) fosfat di bawah oksigen dengan rasio stoikiometri 1:3. Reaktan dapat dibuat dengan mereaksikan besi(III) nitrat nonahidrat dengan asam fosfat.^[5]

Senyawa ini juga dapat dibuat melalui reaksi berikut:^[6]

3 Na₄P₂O₇(aq) + 4 FeCl₃(aq) → Fe₄(P₂O₇)₃(s) + 12 NaCl(aq)
