Dalam taksonomi, Picrophilus adalah genus arkea dari famili Picrophilaceae.^[1]

Picrophilus adalah genus sangat asidofilik dalam Euryarchaeota. Mikrob ini adalah organisme yang paling asidofilik saat ini dikenal,^[2] dengan kemampuan untuk tumbuh pada pH -0,06.^[3] Mereka asidofili obligat dan tidak dapat mempertahankan integritas membran mereka pada nilai pH lebih tinggi dari 4.
