Jules Joseph Lefebvre (bahasa Prancis: [ʒyl ʒɔzɛf ləfɛvʁ]; 14 Maret 1836 – 24 Februari 1911) adalah seorang tokoh Perancis pelukis, pendidik dan ahli teori.

Awal kehidupan

Lefebvre lahir di Tournan-en-Brie, Seine-et-Marne, pada 14 Maret 1836.^[1] Ia memasuki École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts pada tahun 1852 dan merupakan murid dari Léon Cogniet.

Karier

Ia memenangkan Prix de Rome yang bergengsi pada tahun 1861. Antara tahun 1855 dan 1898, ia memamerkan 72 potret di Paris Salon. Banyak lukisannya adalah sosok tunggal wanita cantik. Di antara potret terbaiknya adalah potret ML Reynaud dan Prince Imperial (1874).^[3] Pada tahun 1891, ia menjadi anggota Akademi Seni Prancis.

Dia adalah profesor di Académie Julian di Paris.^[4] Lefebvre terutama penting sebagai guru yang sangat baik dan simpatik yang berjumlah banyak orang Amerika di antara 1500 muridnya atau lebih.
