Untuk mencegah kebingungan, lagu "Here I Am" awalnya dirilis dengan judul "Here I Am (Just When I Thought I Was Over You)" agar bisa dibedakan dari lagu hit nomor satu "The One That You Love" dari Air Supply yang berisi lirik: "Here I am, the one that you love".
Setelah dirilis sebagai singel pada musim gugur 1981, "Here I Am" mencapai posisi nomor 5 di Billboard Hot 100 pada bulan November 1981, dan bertahan di Top 40 selama 15 minggu.[1] Lagu ini juga berada di urutan nomor satu Billboard Adult Contemporary Chart selama tiga minggu.[2]
