Ceratophyllaceae adalah sebuah famili tumbuhan berbunga kosmopolitan yang hanya mencakup satu genus hidup^[2] yang umum ditemukan di kolam, rawa, dan sungai di wilayah tropis dan iklim sedang. Ceratophyllaceae menjadi satu-satunya famili hidup dari ordo Ceratophyllales.^[3] Spesies didalamnya biasa dikenal dengan nama coontail. atau hornwort, tetapi hornwort juga digunakan untuk merujuk tetumbuhan di divisio Anthocerotophyta.

Ceratophyllaceae tumbuh terendam di air, biasanya, namun tidak selalu, mengambang di permukaan. Tumbuhan ini tidak tahan kemarau.
