Begotten adalah sebuah film horor eksperimental Amerika tahun 1989 yang ditulis, diproduksi, diedit, dan disutradarai oleh Edmund Elias Merhige. Film ini dibintangi oleh Brian Salsburg, Donna Dempsy, Stephen Charles Barry, dan anggota perusahaan teater Theatreofmaterial milik Merhige. Film ini tidak berisi dialog dan menggunakan gaya yang mirip dengan film bisu awal. Plot misterius dalam film ini diambil dari unsur-unsur berbagai mitos penciptaan. Film dimulai dengan adegan bunuh diri sosok Tuhan yang melahirkan Ibu Pertiwi dan Putra Bumi, kemudian memulai perjalanan kematian dan kelahiran kembali melalui lanskap tandus. Begotten pertama kali disusun sebagai karya teater eksperimental dengan tarian dan iringan musik langsung, tetapi Merhige beralih ke film setelah memutuskan bahwa visinya akan terlalu mahal untuk dicapai sebagai produksi untuk penonton langsung. Antonin Artaud dan filsuf Friedrich Nietzsche adalah pengaruh besar pada Begotten, karena Merhige percaya bahwa ide dan teori mereka belum dieksplorasi sepenuhnya dalam film. Gaya visual film ini terinspirasi oleh film dokumenter pendek Blood of the Beasts karya Georges Franju, Seven Samurai karya Akira Kurosawa, The Act of Seeing with One's Own Eyes karya Stan Brakhage, dan film Ekspresionis Jerman The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari. Syuting Film Begotten dilakukan di New York dan New Jersey yang diperkirakan memakan waktu hingga tiga setengah tahun.
