Jakarta Aktual – 21 June 2026 | 3 hikers die in Grand Canyon horror as temperatures soared above 100 degrees. The National Park Service confirmed that three elderly hikers lost their lives while traversing the Grand Canyon’s inner trails. The incidents occurred on June 12 and June 16, with temperatures reaching 109 degrees in the shade during midday hours.
The first incident took place on June 12, when a 72-year-old man was found dead on the South Kaibab Trail due to heat-related symptoms. Emergency responders arrived at the scene to find the hiker already deceased.
On June 16, a 67-year-old man and a 68-year-old woman were found dead on the North Kaibab Trail. The investigation into their causes of death is still ongoing, but it appears that they too succumbed to heat-related causes.
This tragic incident marks the latest in a series of heat-related deaths at the Grand Canyon. Earlier this month, a teenager died after attempting a round-trip day hike from the South Rim to the Colorado River. The teenager was found in a remote area 30 feet below the trail.
In a separate incident last year, an elderly man died while attempting to reach the Colorado River for an overnight stay at Phantom Ranch.
The National Park Service has implemented measures to prevent such incidents in the future, including increased monitoring of weather conditions and providing hikers with essential information about the trails and potential hazards.
As the summer temperatures continue to soar, hikers are advised to exercise extreme caution and take necessary precautions to prevent heat-related illnesses.
